Walk With Me

Walk with Me provides an excellent opportunity for individuals to become more active through a walking programme.

The project can only be accessed through referral from the Falls Prevention Service (FPS) and at present is restricted to clients within their care. The Falls Prevention Service work with individuals who have a history of falling or who are identified as being “at risk” of falls.

Following referral into the project clients are introduced to a volunteer from the Friends of Forever Active Project.

The volunteer works with the client for up to 36 weeks, accompanying them on weekly walks to assist the Client in increasing their functional ability and independence.

Volunteers

This is a great project to get involved with if you enjoy helping people, but also realise and enjoy the benefits of walking.

There are no formal qualifications required as volunteers are given full ‘Walk with me’ training. This takes place prior to them commending with the project. This training is organised throughout the year depending on demand and takes approximately 4 hours to complete.

Volunteers are asked to complete minimal amounts of paperwork but we do ask all those registering for the project to complete a self-disclosure form and some relevant volunteer paperwork.

Volunteers are supported by the Volunteer Coordinator and members of the local Health Service via regular feedback.
