Volunteer CARe2 SHARE
What is a Car Share Scheme?
The problems are obvious; without a car or access to public transport people are effectively isolated from mainstream society. In the absence of conventional public transport, help for these people may come through special provision for essential journeys but generally this does not extend to journeys to work, shops or places of leisure.
Car Share initiatives can play an important role, but rely on local initiative and volunteer help. The most important source of access to transport, however, is often through friends and neighbours who own a car.
Car Sharing is an easy way to help those isolated people access a wider variety of activities, and can mean little or no inconvenience for the car owner.
Who can become a member of the “CARe 2 Share” scheme?
There are two types of member:
1) Those who require a lift
2) Those willing to offer a lift
1) Require a lift? Once you have expressed an interest in car sharing we ask you to tell us about your journey route; where you are setting off from, and what session you are heading to. We then try and match you up with someone who requires the same, or a very similar journey route.
2) Willing to offer a lift? We will ask you to register your details with us and tell us which session you are trying to get to and where from. We will then search our database for someone in that area willing to provide a lift.
Do I have to provide any details if I wish to volunteer?
We aim to minimise the paperwork involved with these roles as we appreciate people just want to be able to give their time with a minimum of fuss; however, we have to ensure, for you and your passengers safety, that a few basic forms are completed so you don’t get any unwelcome surprises down the line.To register on the CARe 2 Share project we just ask for some basic details so we can register you as a Volunteer.
For obvious reasons we just ask to see a current MOT, Insurance certificate and driving license. Some insurance companies require you to let them know if you are using your vehicle for Volunteering but we will provide you with a quick form which you can pop in the post to them to ensure they are aware-we will pay the postage!!

How can I ensure my safety when offering a car share?
This is an important question and one which we are very conscience of. All our activities are risk assessed and every precaution taken to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Anyone who registers with the project will need to sign a declaration to state a clear criminal history and when matching passengers with drivers we will ensure there is an initial meeting between the two and a member of staff, prior to any lone driving being done.
The final decision always lies with the individuals and whether they are comfortable transporting, or being transported and this decision can be relayed through the Volunteer Coordinator to avoid any uncomfortable situations.
What do I do to get involved?
